a number of, the number of, numbers of 經常容易搞混。以下三種用法都是要加複數可數名詞(Ns)。
(1) a number of 表示｢一些…」，指一些東西，動詞使用複數。
a number of + Ns + 動詞(複數)
A number of students join the class.(一些學生參加課程)
(2) the number of表示｢…的數量」，用於表達某樣東西的｢數量」，動詞使用單數。
the number of + Ns + 動詞(單數)
The number of oranges is 8.(柳丁的數量是8個)
(3) numbers of表示｢很多…、大量…」，numbers加上s表達非常多，動詞使用複數。
numbers of + Ns + 動詞(複數)
Numbers of students join the class.(很多學生參加課程)
